An historic article acknowledging the historic link between Canton, Massachusetts Bay and the birth of Chinese Export Silver
Most of the China Trade merchants came from either Britain or North America; many of the British being Scots and a good number of the Americans being from Boston and Salem in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Bay captains and merchants had a habit of consolidating their businesses by intermarrying, many of them establishing permanent Canton bases within the Thirteen Hongs territory.
It seemed fitting the New England Antique Journal commissioned this article. So much of the history of Chinese Export Silver was a result of pioneering merchant seafaring families from the Massachusetts Bay area
